CADMAPPER alternative: CAD ATLAS

If you have used CADMAPPER, you know what a CAD file from open map data looks like. CAD ATLAS makes the same kind of file for architecture work, and in our view it is the best fit for architects. Every image on this page is CAD ATLAS data. Compare it with the files you know.

Streets you can hatch

Streets come as closed surfaces at their real width, joined at every crossing. Pavements are included where they are mapped. Fill the layer and the street space is done.

A height for every building

Where a height is published, we use it as published. Where there is none, our own model estimates it from the footprint and the street around it, so every building can be extruded and cast a shadow.

Shadows as vectors

You choose the light direction before you download. The shadows are closed vector surfaces, so you can give them any colour and transparency, or switch them off.

Trees, water and terrain

Trees are CAD blocks on their own layer. Replace the block with your own symbol once, and every tree in the plan changes. Water comes as closed surfaces you can fill. The terrain is built from bare-earth elevation, with contour lines in the plan and a mesh in 3D.

The large figure-ground export covers a whole district. Every building is a closed surface, courtyards stay open, and you only fill the layer black.

Formats

2D plans come as DWG. 3D models come as DWG, 3DM, 3DS, OBJ, SKP and SAT, all in metres. The files open in AutoCAD, Archicad, SketchUp, Rhino, Vectorworks and more.
