Shadows in the site plan: how they make the plan readable

Without shadows, every building in a site plan looks the same height. With shadows you see tall buildings, low annexes, open courtyards and wide streets at a glance. CAD ATLAS delivers the shadows as vector surfaces, calculated from the height of every building.

What shadows do for a plan

Height becomes visible without labels and without a 3D view, and the plan gets the depth you know from competition and presentation drawings.

What you get

  • Closed vector surfaces on their own layer, ready to hatch in any colour and at any transparency
  • You choose the light direction before you download.
  • A tall building also casts its shadow onto the lower roof next door.
  • Every building has a height. Where none is published, our AI adds it.
